The States General of the Green Economy is a platform for strategic, open and participatory elaboration involving the main stakeholders of the Italian green economy.

The States General of the Green Economy, promoted by the National Council of the Green Economy, formed by 66 business organizations, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, are seeing their 13th edition this year. They aim to promote a new orientation of the Italian economy toward a green economy to open up new opportunities for lasting and sustainable development and point the way out of the economic and climate crisis.

The initiative, established in 2012, has become a reference point for thousands of businesses and involved more than 8500 stakeholders between 2012 and 2023.

The goal of the States General is to develop, through the method of participatory elaboration, a programmatic platform for the development of a green economy in Italy through the analysis of potential positives, obstacles, and policies and measures needed to improve the ecological quality of strategic sectors

The European Commission, in the 2017 and 2019 Environmental Policy Implementation Review, also included the Green Economy States General and the National Green Economy Council among the measures to support the transition to a circular economy and green economy.

The entire process sees its conclusion each year in a major two-day public event in Rimini at the Ecomondo event.
